Version 5010

Modifications made to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) in January 2009 mandate that Version 5010 of the X12 electronic transactions standard will replace the current 4010A1 version on January 1, 2012. This change impacts health plans, health care clearinghouses, and most health care providers. PC-ACE Pro32 is fully compliant with version 5010, including the June 2010 "errata" changes. System Designs, Inc. has been working closely with Medicare contractors and other health plans during 5010 planning and testing to insure a smooth transition to the new version.

ICD-10

In a related final rule released the same day as the X12 Version 5010 ruling, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandated that everyone covered by HIPAA must implement ICD-10 for medical coding on October 1, 2013. System Designs, Inc. is committed to supporting ICD-10 in PC-ACE Pro32. We are working with our customers to develop an implementation schedule which allows for adequate internal ICD-10 testing prior to general release of this capability to providers. We will support overlapping ICD-9 and ICD-10 databases as needed to meet CMS requirements, and will implement mechanisms in the product as needed to distinguish between ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes in applicable transactions.

You can feel confident that PC-ACE Pro32 has you covered on both of these important changes. Stay tuned to correspondence from your Medicare contractor or other health plan for upcoming testing and transition activities.
